Nalla Neram (நல்ல நேரம்) means "good time" in Tamil. In Tamil Panchangam tradition, Nalla Neram refers to the auspicious segments of the day when starting new activities is considered favorable. These periods are derived from the Gowri Panchangam (கௌரி பஞ்சாங்கம்) calculation.
Gowri Panchangam divides the day from sunrise to sunset into 8 equal segments, each associated with a quality. The five auspicious qualities are Labam (gain), Dhanam (wealth), Sugam (comfort/happiness), Uthi (good/rise), and Amridha (nectar). The three to avoid are Rogam (disease), Visham (inauspicious), and Soram (theft/decline).
