🙏 What is Tarpanam? | தர்ப்பணம் என்றால் என்ன?
Tarpanam (தர்ப்பணம்) is a sacred Hindu ritual of offering water mixed with sesame seeds to departed ancestors (Pitrus). The word "Tarpanam" comes from the Sanskrit root "trup" meaning "to satisfy" or "to please."
This ancient practice is performed to honor ancestors, seek their blessings, and help their souls attain peace. It is believed that performing Tarpanam regularly brings prosperity, removes obstacles, and protects the family from Pitru Dosha (ancestral afflictions).
தர்ப்பணத்தின் மூன்று வகைகள்
- தேவ தர்ப்பணம்: Offerings to the Devas (celestial beings)
- ரிஷி தர்ப்பணம்: Offerings to the ancient sages
- பித்ரு தர்ப்பணம்: Offerings to ancestors (most commonly performed)
